JFVS MOSAIC Awards Presented May 11, 2006

On Thursday, May 11, Louisville celebrated an exciting new event. Jewish Family & Vocational Servic presented the MOSAIC Awards, saluting five New Americans who are making a significant contribution in their field and/or community. The dinner event was held in the Crystal Ballroom of the Brown Hotel.

The 2006 MOSAIC Award honorees are:

U of L Director of the Institute of Molecular Cardiology, Chief Division of Cardiology & Vice Chairman for Research, Dept. of Medicine
Elizabeth Kizito Bartlett
Owner, Kizito Cookies - Louisville's "Cookie Lady"
Omar Ayyash
Director of International Affairs, Metro Louisville
Yung Nguyen
Founder & CEO of IVS, LLC
Leonid Yelin
Head Coach of U of L women's volleyball

The MOSAIC Award is an artistic creation representing Multicultural Opportunities for Success and Achievement In our Community. Proceeds will benefit Jewish Family & Vocational Service multicultural programs, as well as other services that are offered to the whole community dealing with issues of family, work, education, and older adults.

In addition to the Award winners, the first generation of Jewish individuals who established the Louisville Jewish community were honored by Patron Sponsors for $500. Patrons received two tickets to the event and a tribute was made of the person they were honoring, which was part of a permanent memorial at the JFVS Louis and Lee Roth Family Center. The tributes weree also a part of the video presentation the evening of the awards ceremony.

"JFVS has chosen to honor New Americans because we believe the recognition of their contributions expresses the heart and soul of our agency," commented Judy Freundlich-Tiell, executive director. "Since 1908, JFVS has assisted many refugees and immigrants, both Jewish and non-Jewish, integrate into their new homeland." The agency currently serves Russians, Cubans, Bosnians, Middle Easterners, Rwandans, Somalis and others from Africa, Asia and Latin America.
