Classes for Multicultural Services
Career Planning Workshops for Refugees and Immigrants
A 6-session career planning workshop. Participants will explore their
general field of interest and learn about opportunities in their
field. They will select a career goal and develop a career plan.
Career Search Seminars for Refugess and Immigrants
A 6-session career search workshop. Participants will learn and practice
skills related to career search. Includes how to prepare an effective
resume and effective interview techniques.
Your Own Business Classes for Refugess and Immigrants
A 12-session micro-business planning workshop. Participants will
help individuals who are looking to start a new micro-business. Includes
how to develop a good business plan, how to get customers, what licenses
or permits will be needed, and where to get the money to start.
Center for Microenterprise Development
Increase Your Income
Newcomers to the United States are increasing family income by starting
very small businesses – micro-businesses. The JFVS Center for Microenterprise
Development offers multilingual training and individual assistance
to help a small business start, grow and operate successfully.
Learn how to:
- Choose a business idea that works
- Develop a realistic business plan
- Understand all the U.S. business rules and laws
- How to find paying customers
You will receive assistance with getting financing for your business
when you have completed the CMD training.
Career Academy
Return to the Your Former Career or Develop Skills for a New Career
The JFVS Career Academy helps newcomers to the U.S. develop and
carryout a practical career plan. Individual meetings and classes
help you:
- Choose the career that is right for you,
- Decide what type of training you need to move into the field
of your choice
- Help you find training programs that help you develop skills
quickly
Career Academy staff will assist you in exploring whether you are
eligible for financial assistance to pay for the job training you
need. These services are available to all ages. Staff of the Career
Academy can help you develop your skills and complete your job training.
You will have the ability to find a job related to your career plan----the
job you want.
Financial Independence
Learn to manage your money and achieve financial goals for you and
your family
The JFVS inancial Independence program provides information you
need to succeed in the U.S. financial system. Classes will help you
understand the U.S. banking system and how it can work for you. You
can learn
- How to invest your money and make it grow
- How to use credit wisely
- How to avoid schemes aimed at cheating you and taking your money
away from you
- How to plan for your future
Special classes are offered to help you learn how you can afford
to buy a home.
Through the companion Refugee Savings Program, eligible refugees in low-income families can save their own money and receive up to $4,000 more dollars from the U.S. government. (If you don’t qualify for this refugee program you may be referred to similar programs in the community
